The \"Aegis\" speed camera has been a hot topic of discussion among food delivery riders lately. It\u2019s not your typical fixed speed camera\u2014it\u2019s the kind that can be deployed in different locations. Today, I\u2019ve put together what I know about it to share with everyone.<\/p>\n

How is Aegis different from a standard speed camera?<\/h2>\n

Generally, the speed camera poles we see are fixed and display the speed limit; these are legally installed by the government. However, the \"Shield\" is a bit different\u2014it\u2019s a mobile radar speed detection device that is typically set up temporarily by the police, primarily to serve as a reminder rather than to issue fines.<\/p>\n

However, while it\u2019s just a \u201creminder,\u201d if you do happen to speed, you\u2019ll still be photographed and receive a ticket. So don\u2019t think you can let your guard down just because it\u2019s \u201cmobile.\u201d<\/p>\n

My own experience:<\/strong>I\u2019ve been caught by SHIELD twice myself, both times in residential areas in Taipei City. The speed limit was 40, and I was riding at about 55. The fine was 1,200 NT dollars, and the ticket stated \u201cspeeding by less than 20 kilometers per hour.\u201d<\/p>\n

To be honest, I was really annoyed the moment I got the ticket. 1,200 yuan\u2014how many trips would I have to make to cover that? But this is definitely not something I can skimp on\u2014if I try to avoid the fine and end up in an accident, it just wouldn\u2019t be worth it.<\/p>\n
