Basic Tools

The first step in starting a food delivery job is to get the basic equipment ready. Here is a list of what I consider to be the most essential gear based on my experience over the past two years, intended as a reference for newcomers looking to get started.

Hardware Specifications

Motorcycle

A motorcycle is the most important tool for a food delivery rider. I recommend using a scooter with an engine displacement of 125cc or more, as they offer better braking performance and range. I ride a SYM JET SR myself, and I find it more than adequate.

Phone mount

A good phone mount is essential. We recommend choosing a magnetic or professional-grade mount to prevent your phone from falling off while you're on the move. It's best to choose one that's waterproof so you can keep running even in the rain.

Insulated box

Insulated delivery bags are standard equipment provided by the platform. Both Pandora and Uber Eats provide official insulated bags, which you should use and maintain properly once you receive them. If you’d like to upgrade, you can also purchase a larger-capacity model on your own.

Raincoat

When buying a raincoat, definitely avoid those lightweight disposable ones. Instead, get a one-piece raincoat designed specifically for motorcyclists—it offers better coverage and will keep you from getting soaked to the bone when it rains.

Dashcam

This is very important! In the event of an accident on the road, a dashcam provides crucial evidence to protect yourself. We recommend choosing a model with a wide-angle lens and clear night vision.

Software Features

Multiple food delivery apps

We strongly recommend joining at least two platforms. Since Panda and Uber Eats have different order distributions, signing up for both can help stabilize your income.

Download Offline Maps

Since the delivery area is quite extensive, it’s best to download an offline map in case of unstable internet connectivity.

Other Handy Items

  • A small portable charger (this is very important—if your phone runs out of battery, you won’t make any money)
  • A two-piece rain suit (one at the office and one at home, so you always have a dry one to change into)
  • Sports Towel (Perfect for Sweaty Summer Days)
  • Spare helmet liner (can be replaced in case of rain)

Summary

The first rule is to make sure you have all your tools ready before you start working. Many people might think, “I’ll just make do with what I have for now,” but in reality, the quality of your tools directly affects your comfort and safety on the job.
