Hey, everyone, I’m Ivy, a food delivery rider who’s always on the go around the Taipei-New Taipei area. Today I want to share a pretty unique delivery experience with you all—something that happened after the big earthquake on April 3rd last year.
1. The other day, I received an order to deliver a bunch of greens and some yogurt drinks to the Uranus Building. The order said to give them to a “CTV reporter,” and it specifically noted that they were to be “air-dropped” to the chickens inside the building. I was puzzled at the time and wondered, “What on earth is this for?” But since that’s what the customer requested, I obediently did as I was told.
2. When I arrived at the scene, I saw a pile of rubble and a few reporters gathered around it. I walked over, and as soon as they saw what I was holding, they knew why I was there. I pulled out the note, which read, “Please pass this on to the CTS reporter: Please airdrop some food to the chickens in the building. Thank you.” The reporters looked stunned, then began discussing it animatedly.
3. A few of us delivery drivers and the reporter gathered around, discussing how to get the food down to the chickens in the building. Finally, we decided to put the food in a large bag and lower it down slowly using a rope. When the chickens in the building saw the food, they started eating. We watched from above; even though it felt a little silly, we still found it quite touching.
4. This experience really left a deep impression on me. Even though we’re constantly running around delivering all sorts of things every day, this order was truly different. It wasn’t just food; it was a gesture of care and love. I think that’s one of the reasons our industry exists.
5. After this experience, I feel that each of us can do something—even if it’s just a small gesture—to make the world a better place. So, I want to say to everyone: the next time you see a person or an animal in need, why not lend a helping hand? Even a little bit of kindness can make the world a warmer place.
