What is the difference in coverage periods between the group accident insurance and liability insurance purchased by food delivery platforms?

Even if the platform states “Insured,” you should still clarify what type of insurance it is, when the coverage begins, and when it ends. Group accident insurance and liability insurance serve different purposes, and their policy periods do not necessarily coincide with the platform’s operational period.

The time periods specified in the special law

Article 10 of the Special Act on Food Delivery Services requires platforms to purchase group accident insurance and liability insurance for delivery personnel with whom they have entered into delivery service contracts; the coverage period for group accident insurance is the term of the service contract, while the coverage period for liability insurance is the time the delivery personnel are online. Platforms may not allow delivery personnel to provide services until such insurance has been purchased.

Don't just look at the name of the insurance policy

When reviewing your insurance policy or the insurance contract provided by the platform, verify the insured person, the coverage period, the scope of coverage, and the contact information for claims. Motorcycle insurance, mandatory insurance, or workers’ compensation insurance that you have purchased separately cannot be used as direct proof that the platform’s two types of insurance are already in place.

Retain Insurance Policy Information

Keep the written or electronic insurance policy provided by the platform together with your current food delivery service contract; if you cannot find the policy information, request it from the platform. In the event of an accident, first ensure your personal safety and make a record of the time of the accident, the order status, and the insurance documents.
